I normally use Yahoo for all my email and use it to download my POP mail from other servers. Last week I was unable to retrieve my POP mail so I switched over to Google mail.

Yesterday Yahoo announce hey had rolled out some code changes a week ago which caused the problems but had to roll back the changes. It would have been nice to have been emailed about the problem instead of reading about it in a news story. I don’t pay for Yahoo mail so maybe I should expect less than stellar service.

Anyway while I was using Gmail last week I determined that I still like Yahoo Mail a lot better. Here are some differences I found.

-Gmail is way better at handling spam downloaded from my POP account. I don’t think Yahoo applies any SPAM filters to email downloaded via POP
-It’s way easier to go through the inbox on yahoo and delete emails.
- Yahoo has folders to categorize emails
- Yahoo has a preview pane option for email.
- Google displays emails as threaded messages which is kind of cool.

The bottom line is that I gave Gmail an honest chance and I am glad Yahoo mail is back.
