The Keurig Coffee Maker
It seems like the Keurig coffee maker is everywhere this holiday season and is bound to be under a lot of trees this holiday season. Basic units sell for less than $100.
The thrifty New Englander in me is wondering what the true cost of ownership is with this system.
The ready to brew containers are called K-cups. Green Mountain K-cups are about 10$/24 k cups. That works out to be about $0.42 per cup
Apparently you can also use something called coffee pods with the a device called a pod holster that fits into the Keurig coffee machine. The price for folgers pods work out to be $0.33/cup. Maxwell House Pods are $0.40/cup.
There is also a Reusable K-Cup which allows you to use regular coffee with the Keurig system. From what I could see you use 8 grams/cup which works out to be 46 cups per 13 oz. of coffee. Coffee is about $0.30/oz so the price per cup with the reusable k-cup is $0.084/cup.
I know a few people that own this system and they really like it.
