The Dixie Chicks Stick it To Nashville

The Dixie Chicks cleaned up at the Grammy’s winning the big three awards. Best Album, Song and Record.

My local country station decided to not have any Dixie Chicks on their playlist for close to three years now. It’s ironic because I live in a democratic state. If the boycott is about politics my local country radio station should have increased the Chicks rotation on the radio.

Obviously the decision to boycott the Chicks was handed down from Clear Channel, the owners of the station. I’m so glad they have took it upon themselves to decide that all country music fans should not listen to the Dixie Chicks.

The Thomas Chronicles has an interesting post regarding the shift of the fanbase. I happen to live on the east coast.

Soak it in chicks !

“Grease: You’re the One That I Want” was third for NBC

“Grease: You’re the One That I Want” was third for NBC at 5.2/7 in it’s time slot. The is about the same it was last week.

Overall I think the show is starting to get better now that they are narrowing down the choices and we can get to know the contestants a little better. I was a little surprised at how “not excellent” some of the singers were.

Grease Sinks In Ratings

According to Zap2it via broadwayworld “Grease - You’re the one that I want” dropped in ratings by almost 2 million visitors and finished in last place in it’s time slot.

I have to say I was much less interested this week than I was last week. Unlike “Dancing With The Stars” this show has all unknowns. It’s just not as much fun watching an unknown potentially mess up a song or dance as it is a B-list celebrity. I’m hoping that when it gets down to the final twelve things will get more interesting.

NBC “Grease” Premiers to Good Ratings

NBC’s “Grease: You’re the One That I Want” premiered to pretty decent ratings with over 11.6 million viewers tuning in. In comparison Dancing With The Stars averaged 16.8 million viewers each week.

I tuned in but was busy multitasking. I’ll probably pay more attention once they get past the initial cuts. It will be interesting to see if the show takes tuns into more of a “performance” based show like “Dancing With The Stars” or melodrama like “Big Brother”.

Las Vegas “Mamma Mia” to close in 2008

Producers have announced that Mamma Mia at Mandalay Bay will be closing in mid 2007 after 2300+ performances.

There has been mixed results with broadway shows in Vegas. Avenue Q had some problems but I suspect it was due to a lack of branding or familiarity with the show by the average Vegas visitor. The shows in Vegas are not destinations unto themselves. Rather they are an afterthought after someone is in Vegas.

“I’m sick of the slots…let’s see a show ! Oooh Look ! Mamma Mia ! I love Abba !”

New reality show to cast for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

According to the Guardian plans are set to air another reality show to cast for a Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat revival. The show will be called “Any Dream Will Do”

I hear moans and groans from some theatre circles about thus current trend. However in my opinion in the end it is a boost for musical theatre. “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?” was a huge, and I suspect, unexpected success.

NBC Grease You’re the one that I want talent show

Grease is one of my favorite movies. On January 7th NBC will air a 90 minute premier of “Grease You’re the one that I Want”

They have an impressive panel of judges including original co-writer Jim Jacobs, David Ian and Kathleen Marshall.

My expectations are pretty low for this show. But what do I know. I thought “Dancing With The Stars” would be a flop.

Kristin Chenoweth working on sitcom pilot

On broadwayworld.com it was posted that Kristin Chenoweth and Nathan Lane are working on a sitcom pilot. Obviously there are people that really believe in Kristin in TV land as this will be her second stab at a starring role in a sitcom.

I personally can’t see this working. NBC attempted this formula with “Good Morning, Miami”, which was met with a lukewarm reception at best.

Secondly I’m not interested in a show starring Nathan Lane.
//ducks
I think Nathan is incredibly talented but personally I can only handle so much of the guy. He’s like Robin Williams in that he is best in moderation.
